BOROUGH COUNCIL FINANCE At the meeting of the Otahuhu Borough Council on Thursday of last week the Town Clerk reported that the receipts for the month of July were as follows: General account £lO9l 7 s 4d, Cemetery account £9 15s, Park account £4 is6d, and that the balances (on 23rd July) were as follows: District fund account (debit) £3060 2s, Cemetery account (credit) £B6 6s lid, Park account (credit) £192 12s, Domain account (credit) £26 lis 9d. The total receipts as from April Ist were shown as having amounted to £1152 10s lid and expenditure £1285 13s sd, which with a debit balance brought forward on April Ist of £2926 19s 6d left a debit balance at date of £3060 2s. Accounts amounting to £761 4s 8d were passed for payment. An interesting social gathering was held at the residence of Captain J Wilson on Monday evening last when the members of the Otahuhu Fire Brigade met together for the purpose of making a presentation to Fireman Hesketh who is shortly to be married. Captain Wilson, in asking Fireman Hesketh's acceptance of a handsome dinner service, wished him and his bride-elect every happiness in their married life. The recipient returned thanks for the gift and for the good wishes expressed. Fireman Hesketh, who has been to the Front and returned wounded, recently rejoined the Brigade. The death of Eileen, second daughter of Mr and Mrs Patrick McCrory, at the age of 23 years, took place at her parents' residence, Station Boad, Otahuhu, on Wednesday last after a long and painful illness. The deceased, who was of a bright disposition, was highly respected, had been identified with the Otahuhu Catholic Church and was for some time a member of the church choir. Much sympathy is felt for the parents in their sad bereavement. , A public meeting of citizens to be held in the Public Hall, Otahuhu, is called by the Mayor (Mr A McDonald) for Monday evening next at 8 o'clock, when a resolution will be passed in commemoration of the fourth anniversary of the war. It is hoped there will be a large attendance.
