PAPATOETOE.
Owing to the very inclement weather, there was only a small attendance at the entertainment given by the Grafton Shakespeare Club in the Town Hall, Papatoetoe, on Tuesday evening last. This was somewhat disappointing, especially as the presentation of the reading of "She Stoops to Conquer" (Oliver Goldsmith) was well sustained by all the members of the Club, who journeyed from Auckland in the interests of the Red Cross Carnival appeal. Mr. A. W. Hall presided. The scenes were "A Country Ale House" and "Mr. Hardcastle's House," and the caste of characters was as follows: "Sir Charles Marlow." Mr. A. V. Penn; "Young Marlow" (son of Sir Charles). Mr. A. Outram Horspool; " Hardcastle," Mr. J. Coe; " Hastings." Mr. J. W. Kealv; "Tony Lumpkin," Mr. T. R. Keesing; "Diggory." Mr. G. 1). C'ollard; "Mrs. Hardcastle," Mrs. J. \Y. Kealy;, "Miss Hardcastle." Miss Ivy Manning; "Miss Nevill." Mrs. M. Sains: "Maid." Miss Martin; and 'Landlord." Mr. A. V. Penn. As a further indication of the development of Papatoetoe. it may be stated that Mr. V. \Y. Harper is now having a small dwelling-house erected on a section <>f land purchased by him in Pa ton Avenue. Next Monday evening the Auckland Male Clioir ure to aiw a concert in the Town Hall for the benefit of the Red f'ro-s Fund, and <>n Wednesday niffht there will he a children s effort in the form of a School Concert, in which some Auckland aitistesi \\il> assist.
