PATUMAHOE.

DAIRY FARMERS' MEETING

DRIED MILK QUESTION

A large and representative gathering of milk suppliers assembled in the Patumahoe Hall last Monday evening t-o discuss with Messrs. Kirkman and Shaw, New Zealand Dairy Association officials, the matter of dried milk production,

Mr. J. Henry was asked to preside, and in introducing the business of the meeting he spoke of the keen interest displayed in the dried milk proposition, as all milk suppliers were chasing the 3/- or 3/6 for butter-fat, which, from the statements of the managing director of the Waikato Dairy Company, it was understood would be obtainable when the product was manufactured. He had no doubt but the Dairy Association would manufacture dried niilk if the suppliers desired it as well as any other company. Messrs. Kirkman and Shaw, respectively, dealt with the dried milk possibilities in a similar manner to that as reported at other centres, and lii.in their statements it did not appear' thai dried milk was a desirable proposition at the present time. Mr. Kirkman advised those present if they eoiild get a reliable guarantee of 3/or -i ti per lb. for butterfut in connection with dried milk, to sign up with any company or business concern i hat would five such guarantee. The manufacture of casein from the skim milk was also discussed, and from pre-, nt and future prospects of tin market for that article it appeared that the manufacture of casein was on, well worthy of dairymen's eon--id. rati. n. The various and increasii:v it-'> to which casein could be applied went to show that there wail profitable future for the manufacture of that commodity. The tVelini.' of the meeting was that the suppliers should not bind themselves to any propositions until they heard what Mr. Good fellow had to say about the manufacture of dried milk at his meeting to l.e held on the 10th inst.

After a hearty vote of thanks I>. Messrs. Kirkman and Shaw for their .•iit'-ndanee ami the information siip-plu-1, the meeting terminated with a \-.t' of thanks to the chaiiman.
