BOMBAY.
A plain and fancy dress ball was held in the Bombay Hall on June Mat, in aid of the patriotic working funds, and, in spite of the very wet night, was a fair success, the proceeds amounting to about £3. Mr. Barker supplied the music, .and Messrs. A. Lowrie and R. Donovan were M.C.'s. The following were in fancydress, viz.:—Miss E. Balme (Britannia), Miss Curtis (Marguerite), Miss M. French (Autumn), Miss A. Donovan (Red Ridinghood), Miss K. Donovan (Ivy), Miss Fletcher (Swiss Peasant), Miss V. Sawyer (Cards). Miss Vibert (Sunflower), Miss Krarns (Stars and Stripes), Mrs. Johns (Night), Mr. M. Wray (Paddy), Mr. 8. Wright (Modern Greek). On Monday, Juno 24th, a social \vaheld in the Methodist Church as a farewell to Mr. McCowen and family. who are leavinc the district. The weather was again very wet, but there was a fairly good attendance. TinRev. J. F. Martin spoke of the great loss the McCowen family would be to the Church, as also to the district, a~ they were always willing helpers in all patriotic functions and in all things for the good of the place. Tie rev. gentleman then presented Mrs. MeCowen with a set of fish' servers. and the Misses Eileen and Mora McCowen with a lady's travelling rompanion each. All the presents were given on behalf of the people of the district. Mr. McCowen, in a neat speech, thanked all for their kindness, and expressed his regret at leaving Bombay. Mr. Sam Smith, also a willing helper in the Church, who is also leaving die district, was presented with a fountain pen, ami the receipient suitably returned thanks.
