PAPATOETOE PRESENTATION TO MR E NICCOL,

A very interesting ceremony took place at the Papatoetoe Road Board's offices on Thursday of last week when Mr E Kiccol (the late Chairman) was the recipient of a very handsome suit case subscribed for by his late colleagues on the Board. Mr Niccol has been one of Papatoetoe's public men for a great number of years and it is mainly owing to his until ing energy that Papatoetoo is now looked upon as the " Garden Suburb "of Auckland. Mr John Wyllie, b-ing one of the oldest members of the Hoard, made tho presentation and in a few well chosen words paid tribute to the sterling worth of Mr Niccol who was mainly instrumental in carrying through to completion tho Town Hall schbuiu and who also started the Town Board scheme ou its way He regretted very much that Mr Niccol was leaving the district especially at present when Papat )etoe was making such rapid progress for it was at such particular times that young energetic publio men had scope to devise and carry out real progressive and up-to-date ideas. Mr Niccol feeling!)' replied, saying he would always have a warm corner in his heart for Papatoetoe. Word has been received from the Minister of Internal Affairs that the petition praying that a Town Board area be formed in Papatoetoe has been found in order and that steps will immediate'}' he taken by him to have the necessary advertisements inserted in the Gazette and local papers calling for objections (if any) to that it will not be long before this progressive district is declared a township. Miss Nancy Good fellow has bt>en chosen as Papatoetoe's Queen for the Red Cross Carnival and for the next two months things will bn very busy in the good cause of the Red Cross organisation.
