Monthly Meeting. The usual monthly meeting of the Pukckohe Borough Council was. h-->ld in the Council Chambers on Wednesday evening last, when there were presert the Mayor (Mr H. G. R Mason), Crs A. B. Barter, F. J. Morrow, i) K Ha mi I ton, R. Bilkoy, J. T. Stomhri ign, and A. P. Days-h, with the Town Clerk (Mr J F. La e of nhsenne w»s granted to Cr G 11. A»nntrong. MEMORIAL SFUVICE An invitation forwarded !>y the members of the Ex- elsior Lodge of OJdfellowa was accepted for th■: Council to attend the service to be held at the Oddfellows' Hull oa Sunday af.ernoon next in memory of the late Bios S. E. Penny and Robert Beaton, killed in action.
LAMP WANTED A petition was presented from Mrs Jane Johnston and nine othtr ratepayers resident in Nelson and John Streets asking for the erection of an electric light at the corner of those streets. -It was decided, on the motion of <'r Barter, to have the lamp erected, the corner tx-ing regarded as dangerous
A request was made hy Mr A. A. Civil in a letter that the Council should kerb and cliant:e! and pro vide a crossing to to his property in ♦Vest Street, for whi-h he offered to Ci&tnbu!e half the cost.—Oa the motion of Cr Barter, the Town Clerk was directed to reply that owing to lack of funds the i ouncil Cuulii not undertake the work.
On the motion of the Mayor, it was to strike rates for the current year as .specified in tiie a<lvt. published in the Times. The Mayor, in referring to the financial position of the Council, said ihat on looking into the Council's •iccounts more closely since the lust 'peeting he found there was a sum of £IBO in resj ect of a loan made ome years ago which should lie deduced from the sum of i'oOO mentioned at the la*' met ting a< the approximate amount available" for he Council To car/y on the work of the Council it would be imperative i i fict cautiously.
