OTAHUHU
A letter written to an Otahuhu resident and posted from Northern Wairoa on the 31st January only reached its intended recipient on May 27th. In its travels it appears to have found its way to the Base Post Office, London, whence it was forwarded to Otahuhu. No reason can be assigned for the delay beyond the fact that the letter was evidently miscarried.
A fancy dress football match between teams selected from Standards V and VI of the Otahuhu Public Bchool was played on Wednesday of last week on the school grounds, a charge being made for admission. The play throughout the game was fast but neither side scored. There was a good attendance of parents and the general public to witness the game which was arranged in the interests of the school piano fund for the school.
On Sunday evening last a confirmation service was held at Holy Trinity Church, when over thirty candidates presented themselves before Dr Averill, the Bishop of Auckland. An impressive address was given by the Bishop.
It is due to the persistent energy displayed by Cr Hall that two bathing sheds have now been erected at the end of Avenue Road on the banks of the Tamaki Biver. It will be remembered that the Council a short time ago secured a large shed formerly the property of the Otahuhu Bowling Club and this has been adapted for the purpose, while the remainder of the structure has been removed to the Council's yard to be used as a store for the Council's tools and materials. The work of adapting both sheds has been satisfactorily c&rried out by the Borough Foreman (Mr G. W. Kemplay) and staff.
On Saturday afternoon whilst Mr J. Hegben, an employee of Mr John Todd, was driving with Mr H. Neal on the Great South Road, the horse attached to the gig stumbled resulting in both men being precipitated on to the ground and receiving a somewhat severe shaking. Mr Hegben was attended to by Dr Rowley and was found to be suffering from shock and internal bruises. He is still confined to his bed. Mr Neal's injuries were not of so serious a nature.
