PAPATOETOE

ORANGE BLOSSOMS. LENDRUM- FARNSWORTH. Considerable local interest was taken in the wedding that took place in the Papatoetoe Methodist Churoh on Tuesday of last week when the contracting parties were Mr George Lendrum, of Te Kopuru, and Miss Mary Farnsworth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs E. J. Farnsworth, of Papatoetoe. The ceremony was performed by Mr Fred Souster, Methodist Home Missioner. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a dainty frock of white palet silk and ninon with crystal bead trimming, surmounted by a bridal veil with orange blossoms. The bridesmaid, Miss Edith Farnsworth. was drepsed in white embroidered voile with black hat. Mr Sydney Lendrum supported his brother as best, man. The church was effectively decorated by members of the choir, and Mrs E. Baverstock presided at the organ. A most successful Red Cross afternoon ten, organised by some of the Young ladies of Papatoetoe, was held in the Public Hall on Thursday, May 30th. During the afternoon songs were contributed by Mrs Coates, Miss Wright and Mr Bell, a pianoforte rluet was rendered l.y the Misses Hurnside awl Watson, and sketches wtre given by Mrs Turner, Mrs MeCallum and Mr Hemus. As a result of the function the sum of £22 was for the funds of the Red Cross. Despite the fact that there were many counter attractions there was a fair gathering of residents at the Scout's Sports Carnival on Monday last. The object was to raise funds for the Scout's band and the sum of

£2l was taken on the grounds. During the afternoon selections were rendered by the Boys and were very much appreciated. The various sports events were well patronised. In the marquee the ladies in charge of the stalls and afternoon tea did brisk business. A display of strecher drill by the Papatoetoe Scouts was given and was an eye opener to the public, the efficient manner in which the boys carried out their work reflecting great credit on their instructor, Mr Davidson, of the 8t John's Ambulance Association.
