TUAKAU

TUAKAU TOWN BOARD At the monthly meeting of the Tuakau Town Board, held on Tuesday last, there were present Messrs Dynes Fulton (chairman), J, Pirret, J. \V. Deeble, W. Glasgow, and Captain Ryder, with the Clerk (Mr A. H. Tapper). CROSSING WANTED A request for a crossing to his property on Dominion Road was made by Mr W. L. Young and was acceded to. THE HOTEL DRAINAGE A letter was read from Mr M. Foley stating that following an interview with the Board's Engineer regarding the septic tank at the hotel he would be satisfied if the pipes from the tank remained as he thought that the effluent would be absorbed in the new soil placed there by the Board which would effectually solve the present trouble. Mr Foley asked for the Board's opinion on the subject. The Chairman stated that the present septic tank was far from satisfactory and there was a good deal of dirty water still existing in it which was not absorbed as it should be. The Health Department, he said, had already condemned the septic tank. After some discussion, on the motion of Mr Pirret, it was resolved to write Mr Foley asking him to provide a new septic tank or to do away with the existing one as the drainage was not satisfactory to the Board. It was specially pointed out that prompt action was necessary and the Clerk was directed to write Mr Foley accordingly. RATES In accordance with notice given it was resolved that a General rate of lid in the £ be struck as from the Ist April last up to 31st March, 1919. WORK ON FOOTPATHS Mr Glasgow complained of the unsatisfactory state of the work to the footpaths and to the slow progress that was being made. He thought that the cost would be too prohibitive and some reform he considered was necessary to expedite the work.—The Chairman undertook to consult the Engineer and Foreman on the subject. RETURNING OFFICER Mr A. H. Tapper, the Clerk tb the Board, was appointed Returning Officer in connection with the Town Board election in September next. ACCOUNTS Accounts amounting to £377 6s 5d were passed for payment.
