NEW BCHOOL WANTED A well attended meeting of householders was held in the Public Hall on Friday evening last for the purpose of discussing the resolution passed at the annual meeting of householders on April 29th asking that the incoming School Committee should convene a public meeting to discuss the advisability of having two schools in the district in place of the present one on account of the majority of the children of tender years having to walk such a long distanoe to attend the present school Mr Buckingham was elected to the chair he pointed out that the school, as at present situated, was surrounded by hundreds of acres of land held by a few individuals, and had been so for years. This prevented settlement and the consequenoe was that the children now attending the school came from the far ends of the district and had many piiloa to travel. Consequently those children were tired before they | started their studies and he contended that such was detrimental to their education. Messrs C. Leathern, J. Macdonald, P. Wyman, 8. Graham, J. Graham, J. McCaw and G. Lippiatt expressed their views and finally Mr P. Wyman proposed that the school be left as at present situated. This was seconded by Mr D. McPherson. Mr T. Poland then moved as an amendment that a deputation should be appointed from the meeting to wait on the Education Board with a request to send a representative to report on the school as at present situated, with a recommendation to have the school removed to the township end of the district and to erect a central sohool further in the valley end of the district. The amendment, on being put to the meeting, was carried unanimously and Messrs Buckingham, 8. O'Leary, and 0. Leathern were appointed as a committee to interview the Education Board and to report to the householders at a meeting to be h*ld on receipt of the Board's reply.
