BALE OF WORK.

A very successful sale of work, opened by the Rev F. Hales, was held in the Methodist Hall on Wednesday last by the members of the Papabura Presbyterian Women's Missionary Union. Miss Linda Hales acted as doorkeeper and the various stalls were frakU 1 over by the following ladies: —Produce, Mesdames Matheson and Hammond, Misses McOall, Q Black and A. Campbell; Flowers and Fancy Work, Misses L. Hill, M. Hill and M. McLennan ; Plain and Fancy Needlework, Mesdames James Walker, W. P. Wallace, A R. McLennan and H. Wilson; Afternoon Tea, Mesdames J. R. Wilson, E. D. McLennan, J. Black, and Miss Young, with Misses 0. McLennan, L. Wilson and E. Hales as waitresses, and Mrs Dickson as cashier ; Cake Stall, Misses E Walker, A. Matheson, A. McLennan and M. James; Sweet Stall, Misses M. Btewart, 6. Stewart and M. Werner; Xmas Tree and Soft Drinks, Miss McKenzie and Mrs Grandfield. A beautiful collection of gifts from tie Front was exhibited by the Mioses Btewart.

In the evening a very good musical programme was given the following contributing items, viz. Cornet duet, Messrs Pilkington and Gibbs; Bongs, Mrs W. P. Wallace, Misses King,, Hutchison and Mr Gibbs; Pianoforte solo. Miss A. McLennan; .Pianoforte duet, Misses Hutchison ; and Becitationa, Mr O'Hara and Eev F. Hales. Mrs G. Burgess and Miss Pilkington ably acted as accompanyists and after the singing of " God save the King," supper was served.

The death occurred on Saturday last at the Auckland Public Hospital of William JRaymond, the twelve-year-old and only son of Mr and Mrs W. B. Linstrnm, of Settlement Boad, Papakura. The deceased, who was one of the most promising boys at the Papakura Public School, was taken to the hosp tal on Sunday, May 19th, but although an operation was performed he passed away as stated. The fun«ral took place yesterday, the first portion of the burial service being conduced in the Methodist Church, Papakura, by th« Eev T. F. Jonas Hix of th« deceased's fellow scholars acted as pallbearers and a large number of other boys followed with the Headmaster (Mr J. E Elliott) in the procsssion to the Cemetery.
