WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC LEAGUE
Pukekohe Branch A meeting of the Executive of the Pukekohe branch of the Women's Patriotic League was held in the Borough Council Chambers on Wednesday, May Bth, the memhers present being : Miss Webster (in the chair), Mesdames Mcßae, Motion and Baxter and the Misses Usher and Graham.—Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Stuart and Webb. The following new members were duly elected, viz, Mrs and Miss Wake. A letter was read from Miss I. Brown tendering her resignation from the League owing to her departure from Pukekohe. The President spoke as to the enthusiastic worker Miss Brown had been and very much regretted having to accept her resignation. An acknowledgment was received of the receipt in Auckland of five cases of literature, eleven suits of Sy jamas, two bundles of hussifs and annel, 20 scarves, 11 pairs of mittens, 25 caps and 45 pairs of sox was read. A circular letter was also read alluding to the urgent need for Red Cross goods for New Zealand and other soldiers in Mesopotamia, which goods would require to be shipped in June to reach their destination before the winter sets in. As to the same, Miss Usher will be glad to supply sewing to anyone who wishes to help in this most essential work. The order is large and the time limited and every article sent will help to cheer and comfort some poor lad. Knitted goods are also included in this order.
Miss Webster, convenor of the Canvassing Committee, reported that the Dominion Gifts collected for May totalled 228. The thanks of the League were due to the bowlers for the afternoon they held on the bowling green at which the sum of £7 Os 6d was collected equivalent to 56 parcels. Thanks were also due to Messrs Boyle and Lynne for the donation of £3 collected by them on Anzac Day.
As Convenor of the Entertainment Committee Miss Webster further reported that the takings f< r " Cinderella " amounted to over £2O and the expenses £6 4s 6d, thus leaving a nice balance for each League. The thanks of the Committee were due to Mrs Wily and the performers for the splendid entertainment given. Miss Webster also acknowledged a donation from Mr P. Hogan of 10s for the general fund.
Miss Usher reported that the Sewing Committee had made and sent to Auckland 16 pairs of pyjamas. She applied to the Executive for permission to purchase flannel to make shirts and the same was granted. She added that the list of sewers was Mrs Armstrong three suits, Mesdames Dell and Heighway two each, Mrs R. W. S. Moore four, Miss Brown two, Mesdames Jones, O'Neil and Miss Ushflr one suit each.
Mrs Baxter reported that the number of knitted goods had in creased that month and she hope.l the interest shown would continue a* the woollen goods were in constant demand.

Roulston, Moore, Barter, MeKeown and Mar in 2 pair each; Mesdatnos Horrocks, lVrkins, Fox, Robinson, Misses Rowles, Fausett and Galloway one pair each. Scarves—Mrs Clark (Mt. Eden) 8 ; Mesdames Maxwell, Cowporwaite (Mt. Eden), Misses Muriol Hoddinott, Eva Smith, 2 each : Mesdames Mcßae, G Brown, Misses K Stuart, Yirgie Kimber, B. and L. Smith, G. Maxwell, Pollock, McArthur and Doris Lodge one each.
