TUAKAU
' Under the aupices of the Tuakau 1 Wonien's Patriotic League a Masquerade ball combined with roller ' skating was held in the Public Hall, Tuakau on Tuesday evening last. There was a crowded attendance and the financial result was encouraging. On Wednesday afternoon a Red Cross tea was given by Mrs T. McOahan and Mrs Raid Clark in the Pullic Hall. Mrs Hudson Williamson, of the Auckland Victoria League, addressed those present on the need for support owing to the demands caused by the war. A well arranged programme of vocal items was contributed by Mrs Hunter, and Messrs H. E. Outred and Reid « Clark, whilst Mrs Clark and Miss McGahan rendered a pianoforte duet. The function realized £8 ss. A working bee composed of a few church members met at the Presby- * terian Church on Wednesday afternoon last and effected some most needed improvements to the fencing and grounds attached to the church. Their work was much appreciated. Mr and Mrs H. Lewis are spending a short holiday at Te Aroha and it is hoped Mr Lewis's health will be improved by their visit.
