WHANGARATA
The annual meeting of householders took place in the Whangarata school on Monday. There w*3 a large attendance of electors. Mr P. J. Cooney presided. The annual report was read, also the Inspector's report both of which were satisfactory. A number of resolutions from the Primary Schools' Committee Association were read, discussed and unanimously adopted. A vote of thanks and confidence in the teacher, Mr G. W. Rapson, was carried by acclamation. A good deal of discussion took place on the suggested removal of a portion of the school building, and judging by the feeling and sentiments of all present it is clear Whangarata householders are determined not to allow any interference with their school. A strong protest was passed and sent to the Education Board as follows: " This meeting of Whangarata householders protests against the removal of any part of the Whangarata school, as we consider it would be inimical to the future prospects and requirements of the distaict, and we trust, the Education Board will recognise that in a prosperous district like Whangarata the present building will be required in the immediate future " The election of a Committee was the next business and the following were appointed, viz, Messrs P. J. Cooney (chairman), G. Donnell (Secretary), A. Q. Thompson (Treasurer), H. G. Lawrence and H. W. Lang. Three of the old Committee, viz, Messrs J. Fulton, J. S. McGaha, and J. Wilson did not seek reelection.
Mr G P Ewing suggested to the incoming Committee that it would be advisable to have the deeds of Britishers brought under the notice of the children from time to time by the tdacher so that they might in due course emulate the deeds and doings of the leaders and heroes of our race.
