McDonald', Crs H. J. Hall, R Todd, H. J. Moffitt and H. T. Clements, with the Town Clerk (Mr W. J. Dinnison). PROPOSED QUARRY PURCHASE. With reference to the negotiations which have been entered into by the Council with the Auckland Hospital Board for the purchase of a quarry at St. Anne's bridge, Mr Albert Ross, Clerk to the Mt. Wellington Road Board, wro'e complaining that the Council had acted independently in approaching the Hospital Board. He pointed out that some years ago, when Mr Sturges was Mayor, the Council was approached in the matter by the Mt. Wellington Road Board and a considerable amount of time was spent in conjointly negotiating with the Hon. Minister of Lands who inspected the site in company with the late Mayor, Mr Jas. Atkinson. His (the writer's) Board therefore expressed surprise at the attitude of the Council in not taking them into their confidence with regard to their recent action. Cr Hall remarked that there was no mention of Mt. Wellington Road Board in connection with the transfer of Bt. Anne's quarry to the Council as authorised in the Wash-ing-up Bill and the Clerk was instructed to reply to that effect," the Mayor expressing the hope that they would not have dual control. CATTLE DRIVING". Complaint was made by Mr Arthur Cummings. of Middlemore, Otahuhu, of the indiscriminate use made of the roads in the district by the driving of cattle at all hours of the day and particularly on Sundays. As such practice was, he alleged, a source of danger, especially to children, he considered that some steps should be devised to regulate the menace. He asked that certain hours should be set aside for the driving of cattle. The Mayor asked as to the hours provided by the Stock Act for driving stock and the Town Clerk mentioned that the hours were between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m Cr Todd thought that in the interests of public safety it would be advisable to request one particular owner, whose animals were often on the road, to use more care in the driving of stock —This was agreed to. BY-LAW INFRINGEMENT. The Town Clerk having reported that Mr T. E. Short had used material in the construction of a roof of a house in Moa Street other than that provided for in the borough bylaws, a letter was read from Mr Short explaining that he was not aware- he was transgressing the bylaws and that he bad used shingle on the roof owing to the difficulty of obtaining other suitable material. After some discussion, during which the Mayor remarked that the by-laws were framed for the whole community and that people, especially builders, should make themselves acquainted with them it was resolved to reply to Mr Short that a breach of the by-law had been committed and that the regulations would have to be complied with by everyone. FAVONA UOAD APPROACH. The Mayor reported that he had interviewed Mr Massey, both in his capacity as Minister of Labour and as member for the Franklin Electoate, on the subject of the approach road to Favona Settlement and Mr Massey had promised to have the road put in good order at an early date. The Mayor remarked that he had informed the Premier that the Council objected on principle to do the work. His Worship added that there was every reason to think that the much discussed road would now be satisfactorily attended to. DAMAGE TO WHARF. The Town Clerk reported tha considerable damage had been don to the wharf as the result of th recent heavy storm. As there wa some question as to the liability o the Council to repair any of th damage done the Town Clerk wa instructed to ascertain under whos ' control the wharf was. SALEYARU ROAD.
