> PAPAKURA*TOWN BOARD » MONTHLY MEETING The ordinary monthly meeting of the Papakura Town Board was held last Monday evening when there were present Messrs R. M. Gillespie (Chairman), P. fl. HoU, W. Richardson, H. Lloyd, W. B. Linstrom, T. D. Campbell, with the clerk (Mr Harold Wilson). RAILWAY RESERVE ACCESS Replying to the Board's application for an access to be provided bv the Railway Department from Averill street through the Reserve the District Engineer wrote that the application would be considered in conjunction with the design of the new station. STANDARD SURVEY The District Surveyor, Auckland, replying to the Board's request for a standard survey to be made with the proposed alignments of the Great South Road stated that 10 standard blocks with cast iron covers would be required and that the Boards share of the cost would be about £l6. On acceptance of this offer the work would be proceeded with. On the motii.n of the Chairman the Clerk was instructed to reply accepting the terms offered. WAR TROPHY With reference to the request recently made to the Prime Minister for a war trophy to be allocated to Papakura the Rt Hon W. F. Massey, M.P., replied that he would bring the matter before the Minister of Defence for consideration when the war trophies were being allocated. WANTON DAMAGE A petition was presented by fifteen local owners of launches and boats moored at young's Beach and Chalky Point asking that protection should be given against the vandelism caused to their boats by bathers and others.
The Chairman explained that damage had been caused to the boats by picnic parties from a distance who used the beach and he thought the Board ought to endeavour to protect the boat owners as much as po&siblo. On the suggestion of the Chairman it was resolved that warning boards should be erected on the Beach and a reward of £5 offered on the conviction of offenders. ranger's report The Banger (Mr A. McVeagh) reported that during the month of February 21 horses and two cows had been impounded. SHELL FOR FOOTPATH The Chairman when submitting the report of the Works Committee mentioned that it was proposed to use shells for various footpaths throughout the township and he referred to the advantage shells had for use where it was dark—lt was resolved to order a quantity fur use on the footpaths. EXTENSION OF HOARD'S AREA Some discussion took place on a suggestion by Mr Lloyd that Mr Holt, who was familiar with the preparation of the petition for the enlargement of the Town Board's area, should go to Wellington and wait on the Minister of Internal Affairs in furtherance of the proposal to have the Board's boundaries extended.
Mr Holt scarcely thought this necessary, which view was shared by Mr Campbell, who mentioned that Mr Holt had offered to assist the Clerk in the preparation of the petition preparatory to it being dispatched to Wellington. The Chairman, Messrs Linstrom and Richardson spoke in support of Mr Holt's proposal, which was finally adopted as a resolution, Mr Campbell dissenting. NIGHT-SOIL SERVICE The Cbrk reported that there were three applications for the post of sanitary man to the Board and one of the applicants, Mr McVeagh, (the Board's surfaceman) was appointed. WATEB SUPPLY SCHEME In connection with the preliminary work to be carried out in testing Symond's stream, for which certain particulars and experiments are required, it was agreed that a sum not exceeding £5 should be allowed to Messrs Holt and Markwick to cover expenses relating to such investigation. | HOUR OK MEETING The Chairman gave notice that at the next meeting of the Board he would move thai the future meetings of the Board should be held on the second Monday in each month at 10.30 a.m. instead of at night-time as at present. ACCOUNTS Accounts amounting to £ll9 3s were passed for payment, Next Sunday evening Rev. W. C. Wood will deliver the fourth address of the series on "The War, the Cross of the Nations," the subject being "The War, a Great Opportunity. On this occasion the reverend gertlemantwill touch upon certain social and economical aspects of the ante-war situation. These addresses have so far drawn large congregations and those interested In war problems will do well to hear Mr Wood.
