ALFRISTON

The usual monthly meeting of the Papakura Road Board was held in the Board's Office, Alfriston, on February 25th inst, all the members being present, viz, Messrs E. D. McLennan (chairman), J. Trimble, D. A. Beid, J. Embling, W. T. Hall and the clerk, Mr H. Moody.

WAIROA RATEPAYERS' PETITION.

A numerously signed petition of ratepayers in the Wairoa Road Board District was received asking that they should be allowed to merge into the Papakura Road Board District. As the petition was somewhat irregular and the area not clearly defined, it was resolved that farther enquiry be made by the Chairman as to the legal position, mode of procedure necessary, and further details of area etc.

COLLIES ROAD. In regard to a letter received from Mr Collie re culverts Mr D A. Reid reported that the work had been arranged and would be completed in the coming mouth, and also that the culvert would be laid on the Ardmoie Road removing the somewhat dangerous bridge, a much needed work.

METAL CONTRACTS. The clerk reported that owing to the Railway Department being short of trucks the metal contract had been temporarily stopped but would be resumed s-hortly. The Board unanimously agreed to endeavour to link up Alfriston with Papakura with a good metalled road at the earliest date possible.

MISCELLANEOUS. The clerk was instructed to dispose of the metal and scoria boulders on the old railway line at the best price possible to any applicants. Mr Trimble brought forward a varied report on works needed in his ward and he was authorised to let a contract to do the necessary work on Wilson's Hill, the cost not to exceed £ls.

A request for twelve loads for Deviation Road was granted.

BROOKBY-CLEYEDON ROAD. This road was reported to be in a deplorable state owing to flood daniaga some time ago, the road being now closed to traffic as per advertisement. As the road is used more in the interests of the Clevedon district, the Board regretted that the Wairoa Eoad Board did not meet the position more equitably, thus enabling a good work to be completed, supplemented by the Government grant already promised. Mr Embling was empowered to ascertain what labour was available and the price of team hire, and to report next meeting.
