LICENSING COMMITTEE ELECTIONS.
Messr 6. P Ewing (Whangaratal, Dynes Fulton (Tuakau), Campbell Johnstone (Whatawhata), A. Morris (Ngaruawahia), and A. H. Waring (Taupiri), have been elected without opposition as members of the Raglan Licensing Committee. Seven candidates, viz., Messrs John Brady (Otahuhu), J. Dean (Onehunga), W. Gavin (Ellerslie), D. Neilson (Onehunga), John Rowe (Onehunga), 6. E. Tansley (Onehunga) and the Rev. H. Mason (Otahuhu), were nominated for membership of the Manukau Licensing Committee. As there are only five seats to be filled polling will take place on Tuesday next. More aspirants than anticipated were forthcoming when nominations for the Franklin Licensing Committee (five seats) closed last Saturday. Four of the retiring members, viz., Messrs C. K. Lawrie (Pukekohe), Claude Motion and J. D. Chalmers (Waiuku), and A. E. Hattaway (Pakuranga) sought re-election, whilst for the seat vacated by Mr W. Richardson (Papakura) Messrs D. R. Jones and R. M. Gillespie, both of Papakura, were nominated, other candidates also being Messrs C. Roadley (Pukekohe), J. T. Stembridge (Pukekohe) and A. M. Barriball (Waiuku). With a view of avoiding the expense of a contested election the two rival Papakura candidates have withdrawn, as also have Messrs Ste abridge and Barriball. Messrs Lawrie, Motion, Chalmers, Hattaway and Roadley have thus been declared duly elected.
In connection with the Licensing Committee election in Manukau electorate it may be mentioned that all licensed houses in electorates in which polling takes place close at noon on the day of voting.
