Since the coming into force of the restricted train service considerable inconvenience has been caused to passengers by the irregular running of the train from the Wa.kato due in Auckland at 8(! p.m. Frequently, and more particularly on Tuesday evenings when stock is picked up and conveyed to Otahuhu for the Westlield market the following day, the train has been anything from an hour to a couple of hours late in arrival Some improvement may, however, now be» expected from the fac* that in response to representations by the Auckland Farmers' Union as to the advisability of providing a night stock train from the Waitato to Westfield, th i Minister for Kailway* has written to the secretary of the ITnioD, stating that us n temporaiy measure the Department will run a night train each Tuesday from Frankton Junction to Auckland. The Minister adris that as a further heavy call will be made on tho railway staff during the next two it may not bo possible to 'un the night train for more thun a few weeks, as it entails the c • iiintr out of a number of men specially lor night duty.
