OTAHUHU MAGISTRATE'S COURT. At the Magistrate's Court held . yesterday before Mr Wyvern Wilson, 8.M., three charges were preferred against Edwin Claude Scott Gollan, drover, of Otahuhu, (1) for cruelty to a calf when driving it along tho road ; (2) for using obscene language ; and (3) for assault. Defendant, who was represented by Mr Alan Moody, was fined £2 on the second charge, the third charge was dismissed costs being allowed to defendant's solicitor of £1 Is, the first charge being also dismissed. For riding a motor cycle v ithout a light at East Tamaki two young men, Alfred Stancombe and Septimus Gillard, were convicted and ordered to pay the costs 7s each. Charged with a breach of a prohibition order \llau Jackson, labourer, Onehunga, was convicted and fined £3 and costs. Benjamin Milton, farmer, Papatoetoe, charged with two offences under the Sale of Food and Drugs Act by selling milk not up to the proper standard, was convicted and fined the sum of £5 and 17s 6d costs in each case. Gigantic preparations are being made for the postponed Monster Carnival which is now to be held on Saturday, 9th March. An announcement of the function appears in our , advertising columns. Harvest Festival Services in connection with St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church were held on Sunday last. Mr J. Hunter preached in tbe morning and the pulpit was occupied in the evening by the Rev. J. Currie. Special anthems were rendered at both services, Mr W. J. Dinnison and Miss May Moffitt taking the solos in the morning and Miss Ceha McArthur at night. Mr A. McDonald acted as conductor, Mrs C. Fraser presiding at the organ. In connection with St. Andrew's Sunday School a social has been arranged for Friday next in the Parish Hall when a largn attendance is anticipated. The object of the social is for the Sunday Scb*ool Fund. The usual fortnightly meetibg of the Otahuhu Borough Council takes place next Thursday evening. An owner is wanted by the Otahuhu police for a dark bay (almost black) mare that was found with bridle and boy's saddle attached tied up to a fence at the Westfield saleyards kst Thursday. The animal, which stands about 14 2 hands, has a white streak on its face and a scar on both knees. It is thought by the police that the horse was " commandeeted " by some individual, who rode it as far as Westfield and then proceeded on his » journey by annexing a motor-car I belonging to Mr Arnold Peterson, farmer, of Panniure, that had been left unattended outside the saleyards. The same (Thursday) evening the car was found abandoned on the Great South Road between Rama Rama and Bombay.
