PAPATOETOE

The death occurred at a pri?ate hospital in Auckland on Wednesday last of Mrs Thomas,, wife of Mr Q. Thomas, of Carruth Road, Papatoetoe. The deceased lady had been ailing for some time past. She leaves a husband and several sons and daughters to mourn their loss. The funeral took place at Peria, North Auckland, on Saturday last. Mr 8. Woolfield has purchased the property of Mr Kae, of Station and Coronation roads, and Mr Rae has left to take up his residence at Pukekohe. Mr Irwin has disposed of his property on Green Park Estate to Mr Oxley, of Pukekohe, and has left to take up a farm in the latter district. A tennis match was played on Saturday last between East Tamaki and Papatoetoe on the local courts and resulted in an easy victory for Papatoetoe by 9 games to 3. Although only a young club East Tamaki have many promising players and should be a side to be reckoned with in the near future. For the visiting ladies Miss A. Ferguson and Miss O.Hill played sterling games, In the gent's section Messrs Smith, Preston (2), and N. Waters were right up to senior form. Playing in the final for the Labour Day pairs bowling tournament Kirkbi'ide and Cutforth defeated Wills and Watson by 10 points to 9. Bryett, Bryant, Watson and Beid are to represent the Club at the Rotorua tournament next week. The Road Board have fixed February 27th for the opening ceremony of the new Town Hall, when it is confidently expected the Rt. Hon. W. F Massey (Prime Minister) will officiate.
