MANGERE BOAD BOARD

The Mangere Eoad Board held its monthly meeting on Monday evening of last week. Present: Messrs M. B. Kirkbride (chairman), 8. W. House, C. E. Qooseman, Jas. Montgomerie, W. W. Massey, and the Clerk (Mr Edgar Ashcroft). Mr G. F. Niccol, contractor for the Mangere bridge, wrote agreeing to give attention to the sunken portion of the bridge 1 and to effect sundry repairs sometime during the present month. The Superintendent of the State Advances Office, Wellington, wrote stating that the result of the poll re the water supnly scheme had been Gazetted.

A letter from Mr L. M. Henry, on behalf of several ratepayers residing in the vicinity of the Eccleston Settlement, asking that a lamp be erected near the overhead railway bridge, was referred to the County Council for consideration. The Clerk reported that he had made enquiries as to the probable cost of the lamp and maintenance thereof. A letter was received from Mr J. W. Whyte agreeing to accept the Board's off 9r to arbitrate on the Pukaki road question. It was decided that the Clerk obtain a plan of the boundaries, showing the respective areas under dispute, prior to convening a special meeting of the Board on the ground. Mr J. E. Taylor wrote asking that he be informed what were the other roads which he had heard were wanted to be opened for future use. The Clerk reported that he had seen Mr Taylor and had made satisfactory arrangements. A request was received from Mr John Massey to be allowed to expend the grant for the Puketutu Island road by carting soil filling on to the embankment. It was decided to accede to the request on the condition that Mr Massey gave an undertaking to make good the work with metal filling should the other not prove successful, as the Board were doubtful of it standing against the severe conditions

It was decided to give Mackenzie road a good coat of metal without delay. The Foreman reported that several offers of metal gratis, for crushing purposes, had been accepted. The Clerk submitted a list giving the names of all persons whose rates were outstanding and he was instructed to take the necessary proceedings to collect all the amounts owing without further delay. A list of names showing all the men who had left Mangere to serve with the Forces was submitted with the object of making provision for a district Roll of Honour. , Accounts amounting to £39 lls 3d were passed for payment.
