TUAKiII HORTICULTURAL SHOW Tuakau was favoured with Cdo weather on Wednesday last on the occasion of their Horticultural Show and Garden Fete, held in Mr J. H. Craig's paddock, the proceeds being { in aid of the Presbyterian Manse | Fund. While the exhibits were not so Inany as last year, there was a distinctly good collection of fruit and flowers. In the Home Industries Section the needlework exhibits were a credit to the district and in this connection special mention should be made of the needlework done by M" D. McNeil, an aged lady of 8") years. In cooking some good samples were shown, especially j the sponge sandwich and plain cake. | There was a falling off of entries in the School work Section, but the < j collection of grasses named and ! classified shown by Master H. I Booker, which gained first prize, J deserves special mention, i There was 'a good attendance present throughout the day several people coming from Onewhero. j VVhangarata and other districts, j The Rev W. Butterworth acted as general secretary and the following assisted as Stewards: Mesdames D. Fulton, W. Butterworth, W. Sineed, c jnr., W. Laing, Smeed, snr., and Messrs W. Booker and J. McFarland. <• The judges were : M«sdames D. Moore and Logan (baking, preserves and cooking), S. Nixon (needlework c and children's section), and Mr E. Allan (fruit, flowers, vegetables and farm produce). A well arranged programme of ( ; sports was carried out and caused 1 I much amusement especially the I j horse events. Those who organised s the sports were Messrs Dynes and - ! Joseph Fulton, J. H. Craig, with 1 Messrs J. Pirret and T. K. Paterson I (secretaries). Messrs J. Henderson and W. N Glasgow satisfactorily carried out their duties as gate stewards. Various attractions were provided.
