j The January meeting of the Rag- ' lan County Council was held at Rag- " lan on Tuesday last WEEK[.V HALF-HOLIDAY. i Wednesday was fixed as the day s of the statutory weekly half-holiday i for the County. OUTSTANDING RATES. 1 The following return was submit- • ted as to the amount of European 1 rat°s outstanding in the various rid--1 j[]jrs ;—Onewhero, £8 14s 6d; Pukekawa, £22 lis 5d ; Whangape, £25 ' 3d; Pukemiro, £l4 Is Id; Wain--1 I IMI-O, £3l 14s Id; Te Akau, £l6l 9s I 2d; Port Waikato, nil; Karioi, £l3 '! IS I Id : Whaingaroa, £3O 4s 5d ; ' I'irongia, £lO lis lOd; Karamu, £7 ' Ss Od. The amount of County rates for the year is £14,082 lis Bd, of which £13,75(1 9s lOd have been collectc-d to date, the amount outstanding being £326 Is lOd. The clerk stated that all the rates unpaid would be recovered within a m )nth, thus making the 10th successive year that all Huropean rates have besn collected before 31st March The amount of native rates outstanding on Ist October, £3952 4s 4d collected since £361 4s Bi. This re suit had been acheived by letters from the Council's solicitors to natives, the amount collected in each riding being: Onewhero, £3 16s 9d ; Pukekawa. 10s6d; Whangape, £l6 18s 6d; Pukemiro, £l9 ss; Waingaro, £36 7s 3d ; Te Akau, £264 3s 'Jd : Port Waikato, £2 18s 4d; Karioi, £2 9s Ud; Whaingaroa, £2 8s Id ; Karamu, £l2 6s 4d. The chairman complimented the clerk upon las continued success in collecting the rates, and especially on tho amount of native rates paid. AMII'NTR AVAII.AIII.E FOR WORKS | The amount available for works in I each riding is included : Onewhero £792 16s lid, Pukekawa £499 18s 2d, and Port Waikato £246 16$ 10d. FINANCE The treasurer's report showed that Land Fund Account of tho several ridings were all in credit, as ' were also the hank account for the i various loans. j Accounts totalling £2667 0s 8d wero passed for payment. enoineer's report The engineer's report dealt princi- I pally with the progress of works in the several ridings. Plans for eleven miles of road at Port Waikato have been approved bj the Public Works Department and tenders called for portion of the work, but only one contract was let. Plans having been approve! for tho Tua- ] kau bridgo timber has been ordered for same. I <.
