PUKEKOHE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Consulting Engineer's Report. i At the meeting of the Pukekohe Borough Council last Wednesday week the Consulting Engineer (Mr D. W. McArthur) reported on variousproposed works as follows: j Kitchener Boad East, from Tuakau road to culvert past Mr Morrow's home: For this I submit plan showrajf the formation of road for a length of 31 chains, being 16 chains past culvert. You ask for the work only as far as the culvert. This, of course, can be arranged for but I would recommend the filling to be continued to the high ground beyond, and the necessary filling obtained from the rise and eo taken out that it will form that part as well. The filling required will thus carry the formation along to opposite the east side of John street

Prospect Terrace, East road to north end of channelling: I submit plan and specification showing the work necessary for thelengh of 25 chains. The required filling exceeds the actual necessary cutting but the material to make good this excess can be easily obtained from the east side along the length to be formed Kitchener Road west to Queen Street (storm water): To effectually pope with this it will be necessary to construct a suitable concrete channel on the south aide of Kitchener road for a length of 24 chains from an angle opposite Section 244 to Queen street, intercepting the water from Anne road, re-arranging the culverts, and carrying the channel along Kitchener road east to Morrow's culvert, thence by natural outlet through the paddock as at present. Owing to the volume of storm water here it will be necessary to construct a specially designed channel. | Ward Street from Mr Rowe's corner to Queen Street: There has been a system of culverts laid down at Mr Rowe's corner which requires re-arranging and the water that has been wrongly diverted down Puni road kept to its own water shed outfall. In this way very little water trouble will occur at this place. The natural water shed in this locality delivers its water into a basin in Mr Rowe's property and finally overflows at the junction of Green Lane and Ward {street, thus causing much flooding at this point. The only way possible to carry, this off is along the south side of Ward Street to Queen Street by concrete channelling and re-arrangement of culverts, and the placing of a much larger culvert across Queen Street to lead most of the water into the present outfall through Mr O'Connor's and part of it, as at present, along toward the pumping station. The present outfall drain through O'Connor's will require deepening a little and widening Loan money expenditure: King Street tarring and sanding is proceeding. Reforming this street to Queen Street will be taken in hand after the New Tear. Upper Queen Street, washouts at Mr H. Bilkey's gate: The water tables through the cutting at this place are certainly scoured out to a considerable depth but are not more dangerous than for years past However, a watch will be kept and should any portion require attention it will be at once made safe, Mr McArthur also submitted estimates of cost of the various works referred to.

Arising out of the report it was resolved, on the, motion of Cr Barter, that the formation of King Street should be finished and that on completion of that work the improvement to Prospect Terrace should be carried out by day labour. It was also decided that tenders should be called for the formation work on Morrow's Road up to the junction of John Street.
