Wednesday, January 23rd, at 11 a.m., has b<eu fixed by Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M., as the adjourned date for the hearing at the Pukekohe Court house of the petition concerning the validity of the recent election of a member for Mauku Riding on the Franklin County Council. In the n-tWence in our last issue to the holiday arrangements for trains the time of the second express departing from Auckland in the morning, viz. for Rotorua, was given at 10am, whereas it leaves at 9 50 a m. aud calls at Pukekohe at 11 2 a.m. A reminder is given that Father Christmas will make an appearance in Pukekohe at the Bookery this (Friday) evening and also next Monday afternoon and evening. On Monday he'will hand a present to every child in attendance to greet him
The N.Z. Farmers' Co-op. Bacon and Meat Packing Co., Ltd., will be buying pigs at Pukekohe next Thursday and at Pokeno and Te Kauwhata on January 2nd and 3rd respectively. MrR.F. Webster, of Pukekohe, has patented a new appliance styled the "Duplicate tyre camer w to enable a motor-car to carry additional spare tyres more effectually than has hitherto been the case. Through a temporary breakdown of the railway water supply at Mercer the two night main trunk express trains from Auckland to Wellington stopped at Pukekohe on Tuesday for the purpose ot die engines being " watered." The incident was interesting having regard to the Railway Department's old v contention in reply to the agitation for the main trunk trains to call at Pukekohe that there were no local facilities for water to be supplied. At yesterday's meeting of the Franklin County Council Cr Lockwood suggested that a Roll of Hon* our should be contain the names of all those m Franklin County who had given their lirea for the Empire. The proposal was favourably received and a sub-com-mittee consisting of the Chairman, j Crs Reid, Lockwood, Montgomerie and Hille, with the Clerk, was appointed to report on the matter. Before tae commencement of the business at the meeting of the Pukekohe Borough Council on Wednesday last Cr Stembridge took the opportunity of congratulating the Mayor (Mr H. G. R. Mason) in connection with the birth of a second son and a resolution was adopted by the Council to that effect Cr Barter, in seconding, remarked that this was the second occasion on which a son had been born to the Mayor during his term of office. The Mayor expressed hie appreciation of the kindly expressions made and thanked the Council for their good wishes.
