DRURY
At the last meeting of the Drury-Runciman-Karaka Women's Patriotic League there was a good attendance of members Mrs Fyfe provided afternoon tea, and the undermentioned goods were handed in, viz: 45 pairs sox and three helmet caps, the workers being Mesdames McMurtrie, John Blake, W. Bremner, 6 pairs each, Btrong, Barclay, 4 pairs each, W. Glasson, Morrison, Smallfield, 2 pairs each, Bregman, D. Bremner. Girdwood, Hill, T. Brooks, McNaughton, Fyfe, 1 pair each, Misses H. Morrison, 2 pairs, Mavis Morrison, E. Morrison, M. Morrison, N. Hill, 1 pair each, Mrs John Dickson 3 helmet caps. A public meeting convened by Mr J. Flanagan, in the matter of the site of the proposed central post office, was held in the Drury hall on Saturday evening when there was a large gathering of settlers. Cr Thomas presided. After a good deal (>f discussion, which was carried through in concord and lnrmony, a strong committee was elected to investigate proposed sites and to report to another meeting. Haymaking is now in full swing in the district and the majority of the crops seem to be much lighter than those of last year. Farmers complain about the scarcity of labour but they are doing their best to cope with their work. The nett result of the recent Paddy's Market, held for the Red Cross fund, totalled £75, which amount has been paid into the Secretary at Auckland.
