WAIAU PA

A well-attended meeting of residents was held on Saturday evening in the Public Hall to discuss postal matters of the district. Mr G. F, Learning was voted to the chair. Some friction was evidenced between representatives of the different ends of the district although there was a general recognition that the postal business was efficiently coutrolled by Mrs Evans, the postmistress. A resolution was finally passed advocating a daily mail instead of a mail three times a week as now, a suggestion that a branch office should be established at the cross roads near the school for two hours a day for the despatch and delivery of letters not being adopted. Despite the decision of the meeting, however, rival petitions are now on foot in furtherance of the two proposals mentioned. The services at the local church contiuue to attract good congregations and the members of the different religious bodies who make use of the building all work together with commendable harmony. Mr Joseph Clark, one of the best known settlers of the district, has suffered a relapse in health and is now in a hospital in Auckland. His many friends trust he will soon recover and be out amongst them once again. The clearing sale held on Mr J. Wansbone's farm yesterday was well attended and satisfactory priced were secured.
