RAILWAY TO PATUMAHOE GOODS SERVICE TO BE STARTED The first section of the Waiuku railway t» be completed, ithat from Paerata fit Patumahoe, will be taken over frot# the Public Works Depart' ment by the Railway Department on Monday text. For the preeent a goods train will be run on Saturdava only, and no passengers will be carried meantime. The length of the aeetion to be opened is about 5} milee •»'} The taking over of the section b* the Railway Department will facilitate the carriage of goods, and also lead to a reduction in freights to Patumahoe, as one book* ing only will be required-instead of two, as during the period that the line has bwni worked by the Publie Works Department. - The total length of the line from Paerata to Waiuku la slightly over 12 miles. The first sod of the line was turned by the Prime Minuter at Waiuku on February 19,1914.
