Private Stanley Edward Penny, who has died of wounds, was 20 years of age, hi« parents being Mr and Mrs C. E. Fenny, of Queen Btreet, Pukekohe. The deceased soldier was born at Whangarata, where his father was farming for many years. He was educated at the Whangarata Public School and on leaving school he was associated in the coaohbuilding trade with his brother, Mr C. Penny, of King street, Pukekohe. He always took a great interest in military work and was identified with the Pukekohe Senior Cadet Corps, of which he became Sergt.-Major He was regarded as a crack shot and won a cup for prize shooting. The deceased was also a prominent member of the Excelsior Lodge of Oddfellows and was everywhere held in the highest regard. Enlisting in the Rifle Brigade he left New Zealand with the 17th Reinforcements and after several engagements at the front waa wounded in the shoulder in the Messines battle. He, however, returned to the trenches and later received wounds from which he succumbed on the 15th inst. Pte Outhbert Penny, an elder brother of deceased, is at present in hospital in England suffering from dysentery. Sergeant Rupert L Waters, who is reported wounded, is a son of Captain Waters, of Clevedon. Private advice has been received that he is seriously ill in El Arish Hospital, with gunshot wounds in the left arm. Only a month or two ago he was discharged from hospital, having received gunshot wounds in his right arm at the engagement at Gaza. His younger brother, Sergeant Mervyn L. Waters, sailed and served with him on Gallipoli and in the Egyptian campaign until killed in action at El Romani. Private Arthur C. V. Torr, who has been reported missing, is a son of Mrs Tor/, Clevedon. His younger brother, Private Frederick Torr, died of wounds recently in France.
