MANUKAU COUNTY ELECTION.

There was only one contest in Manukau County, viz., in Mangere Riding, where Mr H. R. Mackenzie, the retiring member and the chairman of the Council, had Mr S. W. House as an opponent. Voting was brisk, very few ratepayers abstaining from going to the poll, and the result was that Mr Mackenzie was defeated by the narrow margin of six votes. At the Auckland polling booth Mr House polled 71 and Mr Mackenzie 60 and at Mangere the former secured 171 and the latter 176, the totals being House 242, Mackenzie 236. These figures are the final official return.
