BOROUGH COUNCIL FINANCE A report as to the Borough Council finance was submitted by the Town Clerk (Mr W. J. Dinnison) at last Thursday's Council meeting. The receipts for the month of October amounted to £977 10s 4d and the balances on the various accounts were as under: District fund account (debit) £3261 2s lid, Cemetery account (credit) £SB lis .~>d, Park account (credit) £l5B 5s 3d, Domain account (credit) £3O 14s Bd. The expenditure to date on the District Fund Account as from April Ist, including a debit balance brought forward of £2988 17s sd, had amounted to £6475 14s 8d and the receipts totalled £3514 lis 9d, leaving a debit balnnce of £3201 2s Xld. The report was adopted and accounts amounting to £405 10s lOd were passed for payment. MOUNT RICHMOND DOMAIN BOARD The Mount Richmond Domain Board held its quarterly meeting at Otahuhu on Wednesday last when there was a good attendance of members. Mr James Atkinson presided. A New Zealand Gazette notice was read appointing Mr Selwyn Ireland Hamliu a member of the Board in place of Mr J. Wymer, who has left the district. The Treasurer's statement showed a credit balance of £lßl 19s 10d with an account of £7O receivable at an early date. After some discussion it was decided, before making any further improvements in the Domain, to have a complete scheme drawn up by a landscape gardener, so that any work carried out may form parr, of a permanent plan. The Chairman and Mr de Carteret were authorised to have the entrance gates repainted and a notice board displaying the by-laws erected in a conspicuous place. On the motion of Mr Thompson it was resolved that the Board should contribute the sum of ten guineas to the Red Cioss fund. This amount will make £47 contributed by the Board for patriotic purposes during the last two years.
OTAHUHU FIRE BRIGADE At the meeting of the Otahuhu Volunteer Fire Brigade, held on Wednesday night last, it was reported that the following nine members of the Brigade were entitled to the United Fire Brigades Association's three years' service certificate, viz , Captain John Wilson, Foreman Robert Strathdee, Firemen David Carson, ]nr, (on active service) Fredk. Win Bennett, R. T. Miller, R. C. Philpott, T. W. Christy, Arthur Heskett (returned soldier), and James T. Mclvor. It was decided to hold a srnol<o concert in the Public Hall on Friday evening, December 14th, at which the presentations of the certificates will be made. Representatives from all the local Brigades of surrounding districts are to be invited and also the MayoT and Councillors and local tradesmen, together with the Brigade's supporters. Captain Wilson and the hon. Secretary, Mr Albert Ross, were deputed to make enquiries and obtain all particulars in regard to the price of a Ford chemical tire motor, as the Brigade propose circularising all the organisations in the Borough and districts adjacent thereto with a view of obtaining their aid to organise ways and means of raising the money, for purchasing the appliance in question.
A meeting of the Otahuhu Patriotic Committee was held on Tuesday evening last, the Mayor presiding The general monthly routine busi ness was dealt with, after which the matter of raising further money for patriotic purposes was discussed with the result that a sub-committee nas elected to draft a scheme for a fete and gala day to be held early in the new year. This was considered the best means of augmenting the local fund account.
