COUNTY COUNCIL ELECTION
Five Contests
Nom nations closed at noon yesterday ;f.>r the triennial election of members of the Franklin County Council and as a result there will be contests in live ridings. Four of the retiring members, viz, C'rs T J. L'lnkwnod ' Hunua Riding), H. Wilcox (Pukekohe East), W M. Woods (TuVftkohe West), and W. C. Motion (Wupipi) have been rere elected without opposition. The other nominations (for one scat in each Riding) are : Awhitu: Messrs H. Furniss, J. A Renall and J. A Short. Drury: Messrs J. Flanagan and W. H. Thomas Mauku : Messrs J. Henry and J. S. Montgomerie. Mercer: Messrs C. A. Hille and G. H Stubbs. Waiuku: Messrs R. Higginaon, C. Hodgkinson and R. T. Reid.—Messrs Renall, Flanagan, Henry and Higginson are retiring membsrs and for the Mercer Riding Mr R Lyons does not seek re-election. Election addresses of the various candidates are advertised in this issue and Mr J Flanagan announces that he will address electors at Bombay on Wednesday and at Rama on Thursday, whilst Mr Hille will similarly speak at Mercer on Friday, at Pokeno on Saturday, and at Maungatawhiri on Monday. In furtherance of his candidature for reelection as the member for the Mauku Riding Mr J. Henry will address the electors at Drury next Saturday, at Patumahoe on Monday and at Mauku on Tuesday.
