COUNTY COUNCIL ELECTION
Impending Contests Matters iu connection with the triennial election for the Franklin County Couucil are commencing to create interest with the approach of the last day for nomination, viz, Monday next, p >iling day being fixod for Wednesday, November 14th. In the Awhitu Riding, Cr J. A Renall's re-election is being opposed by Messrs J A Short and H. Furniss. Three candidates are aUo forth coming in the Riding, viz., Messrs R. Ihgginson (the sitting member), R T. Reid and C. Ilodgkinson. Fur the Mercer Riding, where Cr Lyons does not siek re-election. Messrs C A. Hille (Matingatawhiri Valleyj and G II Stubbs (Mungatangi) are the contestants The old rivalry' between the Mauku and Kuruka districts will ngain be fought out for the representation of the Mauku Riding, Cr J. Henry Paiumahos) having an opponent in Mr J. 8. Montgomerie (Karaka). Cr J Flanagan (the Chairman of the Council) is likely to ba opposed in the Druiy Riding by Mr W. 11. Thomas (Bombay). In the Hunua Riding the name of Mr G. W. Ileald is mentioned as that of a probable opponent to the re-ehction of Cr T. J. Lockwood. At present the indications are • hit Cis W. C. Motion Riding), 11. Wilcox (Pukekohe East), and T. Woods (Pukekohe West) are likely to be re-elected without opposition. Election addresses from Messrs J. Flanagan, J. Ilenry, J- S. Montgomorie, R. T. Reid, and G. H. Stubbs are advertised in this issue.
