Entries for the Clove Jon A. and P Association's Show, to he held on November close ou Saturday next. Schedules are obtainable of the Secretary (Mr J. A Gandy, Clevedon). The Pukekohe Borough Ranger has been active during the past few day* in making a haul of stray dogs but on Saturday his attentions to dogs belonging to persons that were visiting the town for the cattle sale were not appreciated and a good deal of indignation was expressed bv farmers and drover" on the subject. It was suggested, that some dis cr'mination ought to be exercised between animals that are constantly running wild in the town and others that are obviously cattle dogs Paddy's Market to be held in the Premier Flail. Pukekohe, nex' Thutsday ami Friday 'afternoons and'evenings of both days promises to meet with the success that consistently characterises the energetic efforts of the members of the local branch of the Women's Patriotic League. The stalls will be wII laden with produce, goods, etc., and the attractions otherwise will lie many and varied. A baby-show will be iu progress on Thursday afternoon with other competitions in the evening as advertised. "Tli'j Market" will be opened at 2 •» p.m on Thursday by the Mayor. A bicycle handicap road race from Pukekoho via Patumahoe t j Mauku and back was decided ou Saturday afternoon and created a good deal of interest. The following was the result, viz. : R. A veiy .successful public social was hold as a reception to returned soldiers in the supper rooui of the new Masonic Hall, Pukekohe, last Suturray evening. Twelve roturned " boys " accepted the invitation to lie present A number of apologies were also received from others unable to attend. The building was taxed to its utmost to accommodate the large gathering that assembled to do honour to the returned ones. His Worship the Mayor occupied the chair. Addresses of welcome were given by the Chairman, Capt. Elford (Salvation Army), Whv J. F Martin and Messrs 1{ F. Webster, F. Perkins and A F. lirown Somp of the returned soldiers suit tbly re plied, and also thanked the members of the Pukekolie Branch of the Women's Patriotic wh> organised the gathering. Songs, ical duets, rue tations and piano l e items were very ably rendeied were much appreciated by those \ Refreshments were sup the ladies in their usual able -ganised manner.
No less thnn 15 ex-members of Messrs F. Perkins and Co's (Pukekohe) staff have onlisted with the colours, tlirep of whom have made the supreme sacrifice. The installation of electiic lighting at the Pukekohe post office is a marked advance on the previous inferior illumination of the building. Twelve lights are provided in the office aiid a similar number in the postmat'tpr'n private quarters.
In response to numerom requests the successful entertainment given in the Premier Hall, Pukekohe, last week by the Snowflake Concert Party will be again staged on Monday, November 12th, when the proceeds as on the previous occasion will be devoted to the Red Cross Fund?. Seats may he reserved at the Bookery. Mr A. B. Barter, the Chairman of the Pukekohe Red Cross Committee, has received the following letter in respect of the entertainment given last week in Pukekohe by the Snowflake Concert Party, viz. : " Sir, — As your concert was such a unanimous success and so novelistic compared to the ordinary conceit, I would like to suggest that you should repeat it. The fame which it has earned for itself and the cause for which it stands, would record anchor bumper house. Beside o , I learn that some people were unable to gain admission the other evening, it would remedy this defect and no doubt earn another £SO or £6O, and the money is so much needed. So as a citizen I am looking forward to another treat. —Yours faithfully,— Citizen." To this Mr Barter desires to reply as follows : "I would like to thank ' Citizen' for his kind words of appreciation of the efforts of those who devoted their time and work to this concert and have much l>lea?ure in stating that the organisers have decided to repeat this concert on November 12th."
A very pretty military wedding was celebrated at St Nicholas Anglican Church, Tooting, England, on •he 11th August last when Pte Edward Kent was married to Miss Millicsnt L. J. Cattle, only daughter of Mr J. Cattle, of Tooting. Pte E. Kent is the seventh son of Mr W. J. Kent and a cousin of Mrs C. Williams, of Aka Aka He left New Zealand with the 9th Reinforcements, was in the battle of the Suunueaud was wounded at Messines on the 7th June. The bride, who was given away by her father, was attended by four bridesmaids, Miss A E. Kent (sister of the bridegroom) being the chief bridesmaid. Pte Jack Disher acted as best man Among the guest were Pte Cecil Cave (Pukekohe), Pie J. Disher (Rama. Rama), Pte Rocker (Waikato) and Sergt. Scott (Auckland) and Pte O'Malley (Pukekohe). The Church was full of wounded soldiers from the Tooting Military Hospital. A renept'on was subsequently held at the residence of the bride's parer.ts and the bride and bridegroom left shortly after for South-End-on-Sea on their honeymoon.
