CLEVEDON.
Three Clevedon "boys" have recently returned from the front, namely Sergt S. Judd and Ptes F. Munro and P. Smith, the two latter having been wounded in France. A reception was given to them last. Friday evening in the Public Hall in the form of a social evening. Dancing and card games interspersed with songs formed the proceedings. The final game of basketball for the season was played on Wednesday between reprssentative teams from the Clevedon and the Papakura clubs, this being a return match. Clevedon again proved victorious but only by the small margin at 9 points to 8 after a very closely contested game. Mr C. Atchison carried out the duties of referee. Mr C. Munro had a fortunate escape from injury last week, his car overturning when he was negotiating a sharp turn on the North road and pinning him undorneath it. Luckily Mr Munro was able to free himself and he escaped with little more than a severe shaking and a few bruises. The long spell of fine weather with occasional warm showers has had an almost magical effect on grass lands in the district and fresh feed will soon be abundant once more.
