Auckland Hospital Board. TRIENNIAL ELEGTIONNOV. Hxii, 1'.)17 To the Electors of the combined district of Franklin fonnty, Pukeknhe Borough and Waiuku
fiA!>IBB AXI> GENTLEMEN In -olit■ilinjL* vnur support t<">mvc-K-cli."»n as four representative on ihc Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, direct.representation thereon having now been given you under a new scheme of apportionment of members, j would point '•ut that the Hoard- levies arc increasing this year lias to find £l4~>l as it- -bare ni the Hoard- expenditure. I'ukckohe Borough £'M. and Waiuku £B2, or a total ot £2184. The total estimated expenditure of the Board lor the current year is over £{iO.OK), a third of which is found by the contributing local authorities, and the balance is met from payment* by patientand Government subsidy, Despite this large espendif tire no statement whatsoever has hitherto been submitted to the local authorities of particulars of disbursement. If elected as a member of the Hoard, I would make it my duly to present report" to our local bodies at interval- so that ignorance of the manner in which out ratepayers' money was being expended lam also of opinion that on the conclusion of the war, viz.. when money iavailablc, a Cottage Hospital should be of accident and emergency cases from the district, of which Pnkekohe i- the natural centre. This would avoid the present hazardous ri«k anil delay necessitated by the conveyance of victims of accidents to Auckland. I would remind you that when the County Council recently sought figures and information from the Hospital Hoard in connection with Hie proposed Cottage Hospital scheme the reply was made that the Hoard's officials were too busy to prepare any statement but that the Hoard's books were open for inspection by a nominee appointed by the Council. I consider that lie Council's request was only reasonable and should have been complied with although it appointed as your representative on the Board. I should regard it as my duty to myself furnish any details that were asked for by any of our contributing authorities. Yours respectfully. JAMES P. ASHER. Pnkekohe. October Ist. 1917.
