PAPAKURA.
Under the direction of the School - master (Mr J. Elliot) the children attending the Papakura Public School celebrated Friday, the 31st August, as ''Bottle Day," ea«h scholar bring as many botfdes as possible. This resulted in the sum of seven guineas being realised and the amount is to be devoted to the fund being raised to provide Christmas gifts for the ex-scholars of the Papakura school now serving at the front. Next Friday, which is known amongst the children as "Potato Day," is to be devoted to the same object and it is anticipated that a large number of potatoes will be forthcoming. Later on this month a sale of gifts at the school will take place for the benefit of "the boys" at the front. From reports to hand the Spring Flower Show, arranged by a committee associated with the Parish Church, to be held to-morrow is likely to be a great success. The schedule is a long and varied one and many popular items should provide a large attraction. Another euchre party is to be held to-morrow evening and, judging from past attendances, there is likely to be a good number present at the Picture Palace for the occasion. At the Literary and Debating Society's meeting next Thursday evening Mrs C. R. Morgan is to contribute a paper on "Women of the 19th Century."
