EARAKA ROAD BOARD MONTHLY MEETING At the monthly meeting of the Earaka Road Board held on Saturday last there were present Messrs J. Batty (Chairman), D. Jamieson. J. Macpherson, John Schlaepfer, and Bryant with the Clerk (Mr H. E Glaseon). OVERDUE RATES The Clerk was instructed to take proceedings in respect of outstanding rates. THE MFBGINO QUESTION The Chairman, referring to the terms of the resolution passed by the Franklin County Council at last Thursday's meeting that the rates collected in the Earaka Road Board's area would be spent in that district, expressed himself in favour of merging and mentioned that had the Council's attitude towards the Board been the same three years ago no doubt they would have merged before. He pointed out that Earaka had in the past not been well treated as a large proportion of the morey had been spent in the Mauku district and Earaka had been somewhat ignored. In the future, he ■aid, the ratepayers of Earaka would jealously safeguard their own interests and they would insist on being considerately and fairly dealt with. The Chairman added that he appreciated the spirit that had animated Cr Lyons to move the resolution to safeguard the Council's decision relative to the expenditure of rates in the respective districts in the future. After some informal Discussion Mr Macpherson proposed that the Chairman should interview the Chairman and Clerk of the Council on the question of the Board's liabilities with a view to merging at an early date and this was agreed to. ACCOUNTS Accounts amounting to £2lO were passed for payment.
