Should Karaka Merge?
[To tue Editor] Sir, —After careful inquiry I have come to the conclusion that the Karaka Road Board will do well to merge into the Franklin County Council. I still maintain that we should have a representative, not because we cannot trust the Council for a fair deal, but solely because a repre sentative would have a deeper insight in local needs and constantly changing conditions, etc. Our Chairman, Mr J. Batty, is in favour of merging piovidtd rates collected in each area shall be spent therein. This is good at present, but what if the present personal of the Council U changed by the coming e'ection how will we stand then without a representative ? I would like to hear from some of our ratepayers on this important subject through the columns of your paper. Thanking you for insertion of the letter. Yours, etc., C. WHITBURN, Runciman, 20th Aug., 1917
