BUCKLAND.
PATRIOTIC GATHERING A social evening intended to be given by invitation to a few friends at Hnrr'sville by Mr and Mrs E. Appleby, Mr aud Mrs W. Appleby, aud Miss Wilcox proved iu such popular demand that the gathering developed iuto a public fuuetion and was bold in the Buckland Hall last Friday evening, a charge for admission being made iu aid of the Soldiers' Xmas Gift Fund. The exppmes of the evening wero borne by the three families named and as a result the proceeds, which are to bo forwarded to the Women's Patriotic League, amounted to about £5.
Mr A. P. Home presided and, in thanking the hosts for affording thorn the opportunity of- meeting together, alluded to the welcome innovation in the social life of Buckhuul that such form of entertainment provided. Speaking of the Wilcox family he mentioned that Mr 11. Wilcox Lad no less than four sons and two nephews serving at the front.
Dancing, interspersed with songs, constituted the piogramme, musical iti'iiis being rendered by the Misses Ilorne and Allan (pianoforte duet), Mr and Miss Home (violin and piauo), Mrs McAnallv, Misses Bagnail and Davy, Messrs R. Johnston and F. Spearpoini (songs). Ihe dance uiusic was supplied by Mrs Davy, Misses Nnncy Appleby, Home and Johnston. A home industrial and flower show is to be held in the Buck-land ITall on Siituniay, ]>r-cei)jl>or Ist. Scheduli's will lie issued in due < oin>e.
