PAPATOETOE
[The Papatoetoe Agent for " The Times" ia Mr W. J. Dilworth from whom copies of the paper may be ordered.] The Papatoetoe Bowling Club's statements of accounts for the year ending June 30th last shows receipts amounting to £l?s 9s 9d, the principal items being £9B bowling members' fees (50 members) and £44 10s croquet members' fees (47 members). The expenditure, including debit balance (bank overdraft) brought forward £289 3s, amounts to £469 Is 7d. leaving an existing bank overdraft of £293 lis lOd. The assets of the Club are set out at £505 and the liabilities at £302 2s Id, thus giving a credit balance of £202 17s lid. It is proposed to make a levy of 10s and 5 s on all active bowling and eroquet players respectively in order to reduce the Club's overdraft. Owing to the incessant rains much important work in the district is hung up. The building of the Town nail has been very much hampered, it being practically impossible to do anything on account of the water lying in the excavations. Several large roading contracts are also suspended for the time being. It is many years since the farmers of Papatoetoe have had to put up with so much inconvenience through water and the quagmires on their properties. Practically every farm is cut up with the stock and feed is getting very scarce. If this state of things continues it will be a serious matter for dairy farmers. We understand that a quarteracre section at the corner of Rangitoto and Station roads has been purchased with the object of erecting a motor garage thereon.
