CLEVEDON.

WAIROA ROAD BOARD The monthly meeting of the Wairoa Road Board was held at CleVedon on Monday last. Present: Messrs A. D. Bell (chairman), J. McConoughy, H. Walsh, W. Duder, J. Luke and the Clerk (A. E Bailey 1. tJNAtJTttORisEn GRANTS It was reported that Mr Harding; Engineer Public Works Department, had visited Clevedon and in conference with the Chairman and Clerk, it had been agreed that the following grantsjshould be recommended as urgent, viz: Campbell stream bridge, £l5O (£ for £); Ness Val-ley-Moumoukai Hill, £SO; Mataitai to Hauraki Plains via Orere, £75 now £BO lateral for£l). BROOKBY ROAD The Clerk reported that he had gone over the Brookby road with Mr Donaldson, of the Public Works Department, in reference to the application of a grant of £2OO to repair the road. RIVERSIDE ROAD The Minister of Public Works wrote stating that in preparing the Estimates he would give careful afc> tention to the matter of re-erecting the bridge across the Wairoa river and widening the bridle track on Riverside road so as to take wheel traffic. RATES In accordance with notice of motion, Mr A. D. Bell moved, and Mr H. Walbh seconded and it was carried, " That a General Rate of |d in the £1 on the capital value of rateable property in the district be struck." PROPOSED DRAINAGE HOARD In response to the Board's request, Mr W. J. King, clerk of the Aka Aka Drainage Board, sent a letter of advice as to the best ways and means of setting up a Drainage Board. A deputation of settlers from the Flat and Alf riston waited upon the Board and requested that some ways or means should be instituted to drain the water off their properties. On the Board putting the scheme of a Drainage Board before the deputation, they were quite willing that a Drainage Board should be formed. Mr Luke proposed and Mr Duder seconded, "That a Committee be set up consisting of seven members, comprising three members of the Wairoa Board, two members of the Papakura Road Board, and two members of the deputation, to decide on the boundaries and to take the necessary steps to formulate a Drainage Board, with power to act Messrs A. D. Bell, J. McConoughy and J Luke were elected to represent the Wairoa Board on the Committee, and Messrs Henderson and J. H. Hansch were elect* d from the deputation to act on the Committee, and the Papakura Roid Board are to be written to as to appointing two members on the Committee. HAMLIN's ROAD. An agreement was drawn up between Messrs H. Henderson, J. 0. Barker, and the Board in regard to a ditch and maintenance of same on Hamlin's road. SNAGS IN THE RIVER Mr H. Walsh reported that as the liver had been most of the time in flood he had nit been able to remove the snags, but the Clevedjm Steam Navigation Coy. were willing to bear half the expensa of thes-nigs b. ing removed by electric battery if the Board would pay the other half of the c st. The B <rrd agreed to the proposal, and Mr Walsh was authorised to have the snags removed UT/RNSIDE ESTATE Mr H. J. Burnside wait A upon Board with agreements to be eigne I, authorising the closing of one road and the opening of another road in the Burnside estate. The Chairman and Clerk were authorised to sign the agreements. ARDMORE ROAD Attention having again been drawn to the impassable state of this road on the flat it was agreed that a set of pipes should be pufrin at the end of the present metalling, the road to be metalled as soon as practicable. PAKISII LINE iIRIDGE The Board's Foreman stated that this bridge was unsafe for traffic and it was agreed that a notice should be put upon the bridge to the effect that it was dangerous for traffic and persons U9ing the same would do so at their own risk. MATAITAI ROAD Mr J. Luke was aathorised to get some necessary repairs executed and metal broken for Mataitai road. RANGER Mr J. A. Clarke, the Board's Ranger, reported that as he had to go into camp next month, he was under the necessity of having to resign the position of Ranger. It was agreed to call applications for the appointment. FINANCE Accounts amounting to £BO were passed for payment.
