WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC LEAGUE

PUKEKOHE BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Executive Committee of the Pukekohe Branch of the Women's Patriotic League was held in the Borough Council rooms on Wednesday, July 11th. Present: Miss Webster (in the chair), Mesdames Stuart, Webb, Mcßae, Hogan, Baxter (secretary), Misses Graham and Usher.

Letters of acknowledgement and thanks was read from Miss Spedding, secretary A.W.P.L., for 30 sanitary vests, one case of literature and two parcels of knitted comforts. A second letter was read from the same writer regretting the unavoidable rise in wool and commenting on the great scarcity of some kinds. Mrs 3. F. Martin was duly elected a new member of the League. Mis,s Webster reported there had been no collecting of Dominion Gifts this, month, latest instructions from the Auckland League was to await the result of a Dominion Conference to be held in Wellington soon, at which Mrs Gunson and Miss Spedding would attend as delegates from the Province, when it was hoped the the Dominion Gift scheme would be satisfactorily considered.

Mrs Stuart, convenor Literature Committee, reported that she had been able to again pack a box of books and send to Auckland, and thanked all. who had responded to her appeal and hoped a supply would be forthcoming to allow her to send some away each month. Miss Usher, convenor Sewing Committee, reported posting to Central League 85 sanitary vests also parcel of children's clothing left over from sewing stall at late show, these things were intended for the Victoria League shop in Shortland Street, Auckland. Tha convenor further stated as there were no more vests or hussifs to be made locally her committee were willing to undertake the making of any garments required. It was agreed that the convenor should be authorised to purchase material for making either pyjamas or hospital shirts. Mrs Webb, convenor Entertainment Committee, reported on the arrangements made for "Dr Barnardo" concert. The convenor also reported the tickets for the Red Cross art union were selling freely. Mrs Baxter, convenor Knitting Committee, reported having packed and forwarded to the Town Hall one largo parcel of knitted comforts consisting of I I caps, 1 scarves, 1G pairs sox, and 1 pairs mittens. The convenor thanked all who have helped so splendidly with the knitting at all times and urges them to either keep this good work going or to use their inlluence in getting others to join in this most essential work. Wool and any instructions required can be had at any time on application to the convenor.

The Central League will shortly be sending away large consignments for the winter in the trenches and it is nec63sary that the goods be sent to Auckland within the next month or so to be of real service to the soldiers through the coming winter. Application was made to the Executive for the sum of £5 183 5d to purchase wool for next month's working and the same was granted. Following is the list of workers:— Caps : Mrs Goldsworthy 2, Mrs 1 (donated). Workers, Mrs Crum 'J, Mrs Hooey 7, Mrs Keith, Miss Morris (Ngaruawahia) 3 each, Mesdames Brownlee, Maxwell, Thornell, A. W. Bell (Mauku), Lindsay, Baxter, and Miss Tozer 2 each, Mrs Papesch, Misses Nora Graham (Patumahoe), Barbar, Annie Hogan, Amy Hairiman 1 each.

Sox: Mrs 11. S. Moore 4 pairs, Mrs Meikle (Pollock) 3 pairs, Mesdames Zinzan (Mauku), Robertson, J. B. Elliott, Harriman, J. Black (Puni), E. Henry (Te Aaku), J. Crosbie (Puni), Misses Galloway and Given (Pollock) 1 pair each. Scarves: Mrs R. J. Stevenson, Misses Nora Graham (Patumahoe), Vergie Kimber, Goldsworthy 1 each. Mittens : Mrs Cowperwaite (Mt Eden) 3 pairs, Mrs Brownlee 1 pair. Accounts amounting to £8 18s 5d were passed for payment.
