KARAKA ROAD BOARD MONTHLY MEETING The usual monthly meeting of the Karaka Road Board was held on Saturday iast when there were present Messrs J. Batty (chairman), J. Schlaepfer, D. Jamieson, J, Macpherson, with the Clerk (Mr H. h. Glasson).

camp creek The Chairman reported that as the result of his inspection of the creek he thought it would be better to obtain expert advice before deciding on the culvert to bo placed over the creek, as there was a probability that a wooden ono would suffice. From the nature of the land he did not think the grade could be altered, and the matter would have to be left in abeyance foi the present. ROAD DEVIATION" The Assistant Engineer of the Public Works Department, Auckland wrote that the wording of the consent in respect to the Waiuku railway road deviation was not sufficiently clear to comply with the regulations of the Act under which the road was to be proclaimed. A plan was forwarded to the Board so that the same could be completed. It was decided to carry out the wishes of the Department in the matter.

In accordance with the resolution passed at the last meeting the Chairman reported that he and Mr Jamieson visited this bridge and they were both of opinion that the damage was not caused by the water running down the road. The Board could not admit any claim and the Clerk was instructed to write Messrs Hesketh and Richmond, solicitors to Mr Bremner, to that effect.

OVERDUE RATES Some discussion took place over overdue rates. It was hoped that ratepayers will pay these as promptly as possible.

GLASSON'S BRIDGE ROAD

Mr J. Henry, Riding member, in a letter to the Clerk, stated that some moths ago he visited this road in company with the Engineer and Mr Lispscombe (Messrs Yates' manager) and decided to have the work near the bridge carried out but thought it better to defer doing so during the winter. lie had, however, given instructions to have the urgent work dono at once. The letter was received. ACCOUNTS Accounts amounting to £"2 6s 8d were passed for payment.
