THE ROLL OF HONOUR. THE LATE CORPL. W. B.*_ CORIN.

Mrs F. J. Corin, of Otahuhu, has received cable advica that her husband, Corporal William Bennett Corin, died of wounds in the Third London General Hospital on June 14. Corporal Corin was in Australia when war was declared and joined the Australian Forces as a private. He took part in the Somme battle where he received his wounds that proved fatal. His only son, Private William H. Corin, is on active service in France, having left New Zealand with one of the early contingents.

MR McINDOE'S BOWLING GREEN A very enjoyable afternoon was spent at " Riverside," Mr J. Mclndoe's private residence on Fairburn road, on Saturday afternoon last, it being the opening of his private bowling green. Situated in picturesque surroundings with full view of Tamaki river the green is very pleasing to the eye. Mr Mclndoe in a neat speech welcomed the numerous visitors and explained that the object of the green was to rdis3 funds for patriotic purposes and he added that the green would be open for play on Saturday afternoons.

Representatives from the Dominion road, Carlton, Eemuera, Ponsonby, Papatoetoe, Otahuhu and Rawbiti Clubs were present, including Mr A. Sneddon, president of the Auckland Bowling Centre. Play commenced at 2.30 p.m. when Mrs Mclndoe threw the first Jack and declared the green open. During the afternoon tea was partaken of in the Pavilion when Mr Sneddon proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mr and Mrs Mclndoe for their kind hospitality —Mr Carnahan responded on behalf of the hosts.

Some very keen games were engaged in. The following were th 9 scores: ■

Nairn, Carnahan, Townley and Sneddon 15 lost to Cook, Andrew, Gordon and Harbntt IH.

Knight, Campbell, Lawrence and Brookes 17 beat Yeoman, Jackson, Perry and Mclndoe lfi.

Applications for the position of ranger for the Borough of Otahuhu are invited by the Otahuhu Borough Council. For particulars sse advt. in this issue.
