HUNUA

A social and dance promoted by the Hunua Settlers' Association was held in the local hall on Friday evening last. There was a large attendance of members and friends. At the commencement of the proceedings the President (Mr G. Heald) briefly explained the reasons for the formation of the Association and urged all the settlers to pull together, as unity was strength. During the evening Mrs E. McConnel and Miss Pope sang a duet, Miss M. McConnel a song, whilst Miss Pope (piano) and Mr H. McConnel (cornet', contributed a duet. Cr T J. Lockwood gave an interesting address on the Hunua Jioad. He referred to the influence wives had over their husbands and urged all the ladies present to see that their husbanrls joined the Association if they did not join themselves. A splendid supper was provided by the Association and the ladies who looked after the same deserve greatj praise. Dancing was kept up until 2 a.m., Mr H. McConnel kindly providing tho music. A meeting of the Association was held last Saturday afternoon in connection with the Post Office when it was unanimously agreed that, foiling reasonable negotiations being made , with Mr Morrison, the settlers should build a Post Office. The, sum of £25 was guaranteed towards ; the cost by the members present.
