HUNUA
RATEPAYERS' ASSOCIATION FORMED
At a meeting of ratepayers held in the Hunua Hall on Saturday, June 23rd last, Mr Heald presiding, it was resolved to form a Ratepayers' Association for the Flunua district.
Cr Lockwood explained the financial position of the riding and The following were appointed as a committee to go fully into finances, and to report to a later meeting, viz.j Cr Lockwood, Messrs Matheson, Ross, Heald, Averil, Wilson, and E. W. McConnell
At a meeting of the Association held on Wednesday, June 27th, the committee recommended the raising of a loan of £ISOO in preference to striking a separate rate, for the purpose of paying of! flood damage. Such loan, it was reported, could be raised on the security of a special rate of one-sixth of a penny in the £ over the Hunua Riding, excluding the Moumakai settlers, who had raised a special loan. The committee allocated the loan as follows: George road £7OO, Pollock's road £IOO, Heald's road £SO, Hey street £•SO, Creamery road £7.5, Stewart's road £7-5, Ponga £SO, Paparimu £js», Otau £SO, Happy Valley £IOO.
After some discussion Mr Sinclair proposed that a loan only sufficient to obtain the Government £1 for £l subsidy should be raised An amendment, proposed by Mr Walker, that a loan of £ISOO should be raised was, however, carried, the voting being 11 for and 7 against. It was then agreed to communij cate with the Franklia County Council in respect of the loan scheme. Mr E. W. McConnell was elected Secretary and Treasurer of the Association.
