OTAHUHU BOBOUGH COUNCIL.

A special meeting of the Borough Council was held on Thursday evening last, July sth, for the purpose of striking the rates over the Borough for the ensuing year. The members present were The Mayor (Mr A. McDonald) in the chair, Councillors Brady, Hail, Moffitt, Clements, Wildman and Stringer. Apologies for absence were received from Councillors Todd and Fiell.

In pursuance of notice of motion the Mayor moved that the fpllowing rates be struck and levied, viz. : A general rate of Id and 9-16ths of Id in the £1; hospital rate, 5-16ths of a Id ; a separate rate of Id and 9-16ths of a Id in the £ on interest and sinking fund of the water and drainage scheme ; the Great South Road Improvement Scheme, nightsoil service and office and workshops a rate of 1-144 h of Id in £1 in respect to ordinary supply with a minimum of 10s per annum. On all properties situated 100 yds from waterworks mains 1-288 hs of a Id with a minimum of 5s per annum rated on unimproved properties. Sanitation fee, £1 per pan per annum on all properties situated outside the drainage area. Councillor Wildman seconded and the resolution was adopted. A GALLANT SOLDIER In the officially published list of recipients of the Distinguished Conduct Medal for gallantry at thu battle of Met sines appears the name of Sergt H. Page. This gallant soldier referred to, however, is Sergt A. H. Sagp, son of Mr J. Sage, of Mangere Crossing, Otahuhu.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Otahubu Borough Council will be held on Thursday evening next when the business will include consideration of applications for the position of Town Clerk and of the notice of motion given by the Mayor for water-meters to be removed from the footpath to within the boundaries of consumers properties. Among those recently reported wounded appears the name of Private Albert L. Haydon, son of Mrs M. Haydon, of Otahuhu.
