OTAHUHI
OTAHUHU PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE A meeting of the Otahuhu Patriotic Committee was held on Tuesday last, the Mayor (Mr A. McDonald) presiding. Mr J. Gillies welcomed the Mayor as chairman of the committee, it being his first appearancs in that position. Mr Gillies stated tliat they were all ploased t > see Mr McDonald present and they promised him their hearty support in any cause that required their assistance. The Mayor, in reply, said that it was a great pleasure to him to find such an able body of men working for such a good cause. The C )m----mittee, he added, were fortunate in having the services of such an ener getic Secretary as Mr Shelton, who put his whole heart and soul in the work. His Worship stated that in future he Would do his utmost to attend all meetings of the Committee.
The Secretary reported that the sum of £2B had been received from the Royal Franklin Lodge being the proceeds of their last patriotic concert. —It was decided to grant the sum of £5 5s to the Brompton Hospital in England. So far the Patriotic Concerts have proved a great success and the Committee expressed their thanks to all those who had given their support to the various entertainments and functions which had been held in Otahuhu from time to time.
